2nd Consecutive Loss

Are the wheels off? Is the lustre lost? The Trump Tower Flames were handed their 2nd straight defeat by the Laurier Llamas 22-16. While the effort was much better this week, the result was the same.

On the offensive side, the Flames were led by home runs by Anthony (3 in the game) and 1 by Teddy Erclik.

The Flames remained in a deadlock for 3rd place overall, and have scored the most runs (91) and allowed the most (89) in the division.

The Flames return to Moss Park (home of the homeless) next week to face Indy Tm 8B, looking to bounce back from this ill-timed slump. The team expects to welcome Paul Culham back to the lineup who has missed the last 4 games.

Bad News Flames

Bad fielding, bad baserunning, bad hops, bad luck. The Flames lose their first game in their short existence, 31-20. A thumping to say the least and a reality check. End of story.

A Toronto-area softball coach allegedly paid one of his players $25 to hurt a plague infected teammate so he wouldn't have to put the man in the game, police said Friday. Irving Ho is accused of offering one of his players the money to hit the man in the head with a softball, police said. Witnesses told police Ho didn't want the man to play in the game because of his deficiencies caused by the plague. Police said the man was hit in the head and in the groin with a baseball just before a game, and didn't play, police said. "The coach was very competitive," the police said. "He wanted to win." Ho was arrested and arraigned Friday on charges including criminal solicitation to commit aggravated assault and corruption. He was released from jail on an unsecured bond. The alleged assault happened June 27. The man's mother asked police to investigate her son's injuries because she suspected Ho wanted to keep the man off the field, despite a league rule that required each player to participate in the field during a game, the police said. League organizers investigated accusations against Ho before the spring softball season ended but could not prove that he did anything wrong.

Flames Take First Place

AP (Roding Park) - The Trump Tower Flames rolled over Mais Oui 21-8 last night, taking over sole possession of first place in the process.

The Flames were led by what has come to be known as typical Flames defence - 2 consecutive innings ending with double plays and shutting out their opponents in 3 of 7 innings.

The man of the match was undoubtedly Anthony, who led the team with 3 home run's - all towering shots including one to deep centre field, and all culminating with the sound of cracking branches as the ball fell through the forest trees. Runner up for man of the match, Sean Cameron who solidified his roster spot by going 4 for 4, with 4 runs scored and a few putouts in the field.

In a throwback to the 80's, the Flames next face The George Bells. The Bells were rumoured to have told the Flames to "kiss their purple asses", setting the scene for a classic battle.





Separately at this week's All-Star game, Teddy Erclik and player/manager Irv Ho represented the Flames and will be plastered on the upcoming edition of Sports Weekly. Controversy was abound as to who was really the MVP of the All-Star game.

Flames Rebound With Victory

A closed door team meeting after last week's disappointing tie seemed to spark the Trump Tower Flames, who posted a 19-14 victory over Win or Lose We Still Booze (who apparently were boozing after the game).

In a tense rock, scissors, paper battle prior to the game, player/manager Ho won the home field advantage on the 3rd try. "We both went rock twice, then the sucker actually thought I would go rock a 3rd time so he went paper but I went scissors..snip, snip." The team remains unbeaten this year while playing with the home team advantage.

In sharp contrast to the prior game, the Flames displayed spectacular defence. The highlights of the night were home run saving catches by Anthony, Joseph and Mark, with their backs against the threatening forest of Roding Park (rumoured to be home to numerous wild animals).



On the offensive side, the Flames scored runs in each of their 6 innings at bat - led by a towering home run in the 1st by Anthony and a surprising line drive belt by Kelly "Onion Boobs" Sweetman (amid cries of "BALCO, BALCO") in the 6th inning which went over the centre fielder's head and drove in a few runs.
