Flames Win Epic Battle to Remain Unbeaten

The Trump Tower Flames continued their magnificent run this season with a tough 8-5 victory over archrivals, The Tribe. The match was for the most part a defensive battle (for 3 pitch softball at least), with the Flames shutting out The Tribe in 5 of the 7 innings. The victory solidified the Flames hold on first place, with one game remaining in the regular season.

Before the game, the team announced the activation of Kristian Borg-Olivier from the 60 day DL (torn ACL) and designated Sean Cameron for assignment. If Cameron clears waivers, the club is expected to send him down to their farm team to get some regular at-bats. Borg-Olivier had a satisfactory debut, going 1 for 2 at the plate (with a fly out to deep right field) while providing solid defensive play.

The game also marked the debut of Anne-Claude Bedard, a perennial all-star at 1B. Bedard took a hard liner in the leg but remained in the game and is considered day to day.

Cat calls of “onion boobs” seemed to faze Kelly Sweetman, who went 0 for 3.

The win was marred by the attendance of bitter former teammate Joseph Raso (of the formidable Raso clan). Before the game, Raso fired the first salvo – “Ho is my enemy. I don’t want to talk to him, I don’t care even if he apologizes.” Raso signed a 1 year contract in the off season with Compton (Pacific Coast League) after player/manager Ho allegedly had him black balled in the Toronto Central league.

Ho fired back, “Raso should just shut up and play for Compton. If he thinks I’m his enemy, he’s more schizophrenic than I thought. He messed with the wrong guy. Did he tell you that he offered me the key grip/gaffer position in his last movie…and then gave it to some other underling? While I’m at it, have you seen the hair on this guy’s back? You think King Kong had a lot of hair, think again. He once made me put lotion on his back, I considered charging him with sexual assault.”

Finally, rumours were swirling after the game that the Flames would apply to move up to the Intermediate level which would be a tremendous feat for an organization in its inaugural year.

The Flames finish off the regular season next Monday against Aquadisiac.

Attendance: 5 (season high); Paul Culham was struck by a line drive off the bat of Mark Raso – x-ray results are pending; Flames remain unbeaten (5-0) as the home team and have yet to bat in the 7th inning.
